29 November is the UN Palestinian Solidary Day and to mark the day, we are sharing some of the social organisations and cultural events in the UK. Our mission is to help migrants to the UK make connections and share useful information.
29 November, is a United Nations (UN) declared International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. It originated in 1978 to mark the anniversary of Resolution 181, which advocated for the partition of Palestine into two States: one Arab and one Jewish. Every year, the UN supports immediate action to grant Palestinians sovereignty and independence in their homeland. The General Assembly emphasises its support of the Palestinians’ right to return to their homes, which they have been displaced from since 1948 following the creation of the State of Israel, where more than 760,000 Palestinians became refugees.
To mark the day, we want to share our solidarity with Palestinians in the UK and share some details of cultural and social organisations that showcase Palestinian art and offer support.
The Association of the Palestinian Community in the UK
This is a non-political organisation working on cultural, social and national events. Its site shows a Palestinian Craft Fair in London on December 1st.
Its website says:
The purpose is to strengthen the community of Palestinians living in the UK, while deepening our connections with each other in the diaspora and in Palestine.
The Bethlehem Cultural Festival: arts, music, culture, heritage in Palestine
This is an annual festival celebrating Palestinian culture, its website says
It offers an independent platform for Palestinian artists and believes freedom of expression is crucial, particularly at this time. So, our limited programme of events will, we hope, reflect this.”
The Home | P21 Gallery in London is currently hosting an exhibition of Palestinian art.
