Culture shock!

Culture shock?

Culture shock.

what do you mean?

One dark   night, we left the shores of home to study abroad.

Travelled through the dark night, twinkling stars and arrived in the morning mist.

Arrived to the cold chill and new air to breath.

Culture shock?

What happened?

People smoking, holding hands and smiling.

What does smile mean?

Only understood after blockage.

I don't care if you have a Phd because you are an immigrant.

In spite of numerous appraisals, i will not promote you because you are immigrant!

But, but, but Sir I contributed to the project.

And so what?

Will not give you the credit because you are immigrant.

But, but, but i was always respectful and say please.

And so what ?

You never come to the pub with us!

You never network!

But i tried and was isolated

I  tried drinking tea at work but  as soon as i started drinking my manager walked in!

Gave a look, stern and walked off in a huff, puff like a smoke which vanishes into mid air without a word!

Following day email sent to all staff to STOP having tea at WORK!

I work so hard but not recognised

Well you are immigrant

Know your limits

You are too ambitious

I don't care if you work hard

It is not what you know, it is whom you know.

Stop being a PITA!

Go away! Far away! Stay away!

I do not care about your lived experiences!

I am big, bigger, biggest!

You are small, smaller, smallest!

You are a small fish and I am a big fish in this wild, crowded, blue sea.

Don't you understand?

I am immigrant.

I stands for Innovative

M stands for Marvellous

M stands for Moulded

I stands for Intelligence ( Emotional Intelligence)

G stands for Great

R stands for Resilience

A stands for Adaptability

N stands for Nice

T stands for Transformation!

We are kind

We are loving

We are one.

Thank you!
